Investigators probing the deadly Red Fort blast are now searching for a third vehicle — a Maruti Brezza — suspected to have played an essential role in the planning and movements of the attackers. Senior officials say the missing SUV may have been used either for reconnaissance or as part of the suspects’ escape route, making its recovery a key priority for the multi-agency investigation.
The trail intensified after the bomber, Dr Umar un Nabi, detonated his white Hyundai i20 near Red Fort on Monday evening, killing 13 people and injuring several others. Hours after Delhi Police launched a search for his second vehicle, a red Ford EcoSport registered under the same Kashmiri doctor, officers traced it to Haryana’s Khandawali village. The car was found parked near a residence linked to his relatives.
Investigators now believe a third vehicle, a Maruti Brezza, remains unaccounted for. Its movements, timeline and purpose are expected to provide vital clues about how the attackers conducted surveillance, transported materials or slipped away after the explosion.
According to sources, Delhi Police has formed multiple teams to track down the missing SUV, working in coordination with central intelligence agencies and law enforcement units in neighbouring states. Search operations have expanded across Delhi, NCR, western Uttar Pradesh and parts of Haryana, where officers are scanning CCTV footage, checking transport records and vetting suspected safehouses.
Officials say that establishing the role of the Brezza is crucial to mapping the entire operation. “The missing car is suspected to have been used for reconnaissance or escape. Finding it can reveal more about the accused’s movements and methods,” a senior official said.
In a significant development, Faridabad Police detained a man named Faheem on Thursday morning. Believed to be related to Umar un Nabi, he is suspected to have helped park or manage the EcoSport, which was used to stockpile ammonium nitrate over several weeks. His interrogation is expected to shed light on local logistical support provided to the terror module.
The recovery of the EcoSport reinforced the belief that the attackers used multiple vehicles to store chemicals, transport materials and evade surveillance. Investigators are analysing traces recovered from the vehicle to understand the sequence of events leading up to the blast.
As the hunt for the Brezza continues, the probe has widened dramatically, revealing the use of layered logistics, family networks and rural safe zones that allowed the attackers to operate discreetly. Each development now points to a deeper, more organised terror network behind the Red Fort explosion — one that investigators are racing to fully uncover.
