India cricketer Rinku Singh has left the national team’s T20 World Cup 2026 camp following the death of his father, Khachandra Singh, who passed away after battling stage 4 liver cancer. The 28-year-old flew from Chennai to his hometown Aligarh to be with his family during this difficult time.
Khachandra Singh breathed his last on February 27 at a private hospital in Greater Noida, where he had been undergoing treatment as his health deteriorated in recent weeks. He was reportedly on ventilator support and receiving continuous renal therapy. Despite intensive medical care, doctors were unable to stabilise his condition.
The tragic news came while Rinku was part of India’s squad for the ongoing T20 World Cup. Earlier, when his father’s health worsened, Rinku had briefly travelled home before rejoining the team in Chennai ahead of the Super 8 clash against Zimbabwe. However, after being informed of his father’s demise, he immediately left the camp once again to attend the last rites and support his family.
Rinku did not feature in the playing XI during India’s recent Super 8 match as the team adjusted its combination. While he was not part of the final eleven, he remained with the squad and contributed as a substitute during the game.
So far in the tournament, Rinku has played five matches and scored 24 runs. Though his numbers may appear modest, he has been seen as an important finisher in India’s T20 setup, known for his ability to handle pressure situations.
India are currently in a crucial phase of the tournament, with a must-win encounter against the West Indies scheduled in Kolkata. The team management has not yet issued an official statement regarding Rinku’s availability for the remaining matches.
With the Super 8 stage intensifying, Rinku’s participation in the rest of the T20 World Cup 2026 remains uncertain. The final decision will likely depend on personal circumstances and discussions between the player and team management.
The Indian squad is expected to stand by their teammate during this personal tragedy. Cricket fans across the country have also expressed condolences and support for the batter and his family on social media.
As India push forward in the tournament, the focus remains not only on on-field performance but also on supporting players through challenging moments off the field.
