Speeding Audi Kills One, Injures 16 in Jaipur After Ploughing Into Pedestrians

Panic swept through a busy residential and commercial pocket of Jaipur late Friday night after a speeding Audi car lost control and rammed into pedestrians and roadside vendors, leaving one person dead and at least 16 others injured. The shocking incident unfolded in the Journalist Colony area, a locality known for late-night activity and street-side businesses.

According to initial reports, the luxury vehicle was travelling at an extremely high speed when it first struck a road divider near Kharabas Circle. After the impact, the car swerved sharply off course and charged towards the roadside, mowing down carts, kiosks, and people for nearly 30 metres before coming to a halt. The force of the collision overturned more than a dozen vendor stalls and even flipped a parked car, highlighting the severity of the crash.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as people screamed and ran to escape the out-of-control vehicle. Several vendors narrowly avoided death by jumping aside at the last moment, while others were not as fortunate. The area was left strewn with debris, broken carts, damaged vehicles, and injured victims crying for help.

Local police teams rushed to the scene within minutes and launched rescue operations. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities confirmed that 12 victims are currently undergoing medical care at SMS Hospital and Jaipuria Hospital, while four others were discharged after receiving first aid. Hospital officials stated that some of the injured sustained serious fractures, though their condition remains stable.

Preliminary investigation suggests reckless driving as the primary cause of the accident. Police officials said there is strong suspicion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The Audi car has been seized, and forensic examination along with medical reports are awaited to confirm intoxication levels.

Senior state leadership took note of the incident soon after it occurred. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma directed Jaipur city authorities and hospital administrations to ensure proper and timely medical treatment for all injured victims. He also sought a detailed report on the circumstances leading to the accident.

Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa visited the crash site and confirmed that four people were inside the Audi at the time of the incident. He stated that one person died after being crushed by the vehicle, while one of the occupants has been taken into police custody for questioning. The remaining occupants are also being examined as part of the investigation.

Police officials said the accused are residents of areas near Jaipur. CCTV footage from nearby establishments and eyewitness statements are being reviewed to reconstruct the sequence of events. Authorities have assured strict action once the investigation is completed, including charges related to rash driving, culpable homicide, and driving under the influence if confirmed.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns over reckless driving, alcohol consumption, and road safety in urban areas, especially in crowded neighbourhoods active late into the night.
