Asian Games 2026: India Women Beat Japan 3-1, Move Closer to Hockey Semifinals

India’s women’s hockey team continued its strong Asian Games campaign with a 3-1 win over hosts Japan on Friday. The victory was India’s fourth consecutive win in Pool B and moved the team closer to securing a place in the semifinals.

Lalremsiami opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a field goal as India quickly took control of the match. Japan created some opportunities but struggled to break through India’s organised defence.

Ishika Chaudhary doubled India’s advantage shortly before half-time, converting from a rebound after Navneet Kaur’s initial penalty-corner attempt was saved. India went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

Navneet then extended the advantage in the 36th minute with a well-finished field goal after creating space with skillful stickwork. India’s defence continued to restrict Japan’s attacking moves through the third quarter.

Japan finally pulled one goal back in the 46th minute when Shiho Kobayakawa scored with a powerful tomahawk from the top of the circle. India remained composed in the closing stages, defending their lead and securing another victory.

India had earlier defeated Uzbekistan 19-0, Indonesia 17-1 and Thailand 20-1. The team will play Singapore in its final Pool B match on Sunday as it looks to confirm its semifinal spot.
