Trump Ally Laura Loomer Cites Dipu Das Lynching, Warns of Islamist Extremism in US

American far-right political activist Laura Loomer, a known ally of former US President Donald Trump and a vocal critic of India, has invoked the lynching of Bangladeshi Hindu worker Dipu Chandra Das to warn about what she described as the spread of Islamist ideology in the United States.

In a post on X, Loomer referred to Das’s killing — in which the 26-year-old garment factory worker was lynched by a mob in Bangladesh over alleged blasphemy — and claimed that similar violence could occur in the US unless lawmakers acted decisively. She urged her followers to repeatedly mention Das’s name as a symbol of what she alleged was a growing global threat to religious minorities.

Loomer alleged that Islamist narratives were being normalised in the West and accused US political leaders of failing to confront extremism and its sources of funding. In the same post, she also criticised sections of the American media, alleging that they downplay radical ideologies, and targeted conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, whom she mockingly referred to as “Tucker Qatarlson”.

The comments come amid Loomer’s long history of controversial statements on immigration, religion and race. She has previously drawn backlash for remarks targeting Indian-origin leaders, immigrants and minority communities, as well as for inflammatory comments about US political figures.

Dipu Chandra Das’s killing had sparked outrage in India and among Hindu groups globally, with critics accusing Bangladesh’s interim administration of failing to protect minorities and alleging that international media coverage of the incident was limited. The lynching occurred during a period of unrest in Bangladesh following the killing of student leader Osman Hadi, which triggered violent protests and communal tensions.

Loomer’s remarks have added a polarising international dimension to the incident, as her framing of the crime has been criticised for linking a specific act of mob violence to broader ideological narratives in the West.
