India Among Six Bidders for 2038 Asian Games, OCA Decision Expected by 2028

India is among six countries that have expressed interest in hosting the 2038 Asian Games, with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) expected to reach a decision by 2028. India submitted its Expression of Interest in April as part of its wider plans to host major international sporting events.

OCA Director General Husain Al-Musallam said the organisation will conduct a multi-stage evaluation before recommending a host. An evaluation committee is expected to visit the interested countries next year and prepare an initial report. The OCA will then shortlist potential hosts before conducting another round of assessments closer to the Games.

The Philippines is among the countries that have confirmed interest. South Korea previously expressed an intention to host the 2038 edition, while Mongolia has also been reported as a potential contender, although its formal bid status remains unclear.

India has hosted the Asian Games twice, with New Delhi staging the inaugural edition in 1951 and hosting the event again in 1982. The country is also pursuing bids for other major sporting events, including the 2036 Olympics, while Ahmedabad is scheduled to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

The 2038 Asian Games are still more than a decade away. Doha will host the 2030 edition, followed by Riyadh in 2034. The 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya will run from September 19 to October 4, with around 11,000 athletes expected to participate.

India’s 2038 proposal therefore remains at an early stage, with the OCA’s upcoming evaluation visits and subsequent shortlist expected to determine the next phase of the bidding process.
