Bangkok Passenger Arrested in Bengaluru Airport with Ganja Hidden in Photo Frame

In a major drug bust at Karnataka’s Kempegowda International Airport, customs officials arrested a passenger arriving from Bangkok after discovering hydroponic ganja worth nearly ₹39.37 lakh hidden inside a photo frame.

The seizure highlights the growing use of innovative smuggling techniques by drug traffickers attempting to bypass airport security systems.

Suspicion During Routine Screening

The incident came to light during routine baggage screening at the airport, where officials noticed suspicious indicators in the passenger’s luggage.

Customs officers decided to conduct a detailed inspection after the baggage raised concerns during scanning. Among the items, a seemingly ordinary photo frame caught their attention.

Upon closer examination, officials found inconsistencies in the structure of the frame, prompting them to break it open.

Ganja Hidden Inside Photo Frame

When the photo frame was dismantled, authorities discovered 1.125 kilograms of hydroponic ganja concealed inside.

The drugs had been carefully packed and hidden within the frame to avoid detection by standard security checks. Officials said the method indicated a well-planned attempt to smuggle narcotics into the country.

Hydroponic ganja is considered a high-grade form of cannabis and often commands a higher price in illegal markets.

Accused Passenger Arrested

Following the recovery of the contraband, the passenger—identified as a Bangkok citizen—was immediately detained and later arrested by customs officials.

Authorities have initiated further investigation to determine whether the accused is part of a larger drug trafficking network.

Officials are also examining the route and possible connections involved in the smuggling attempt.

Rising Concerns Over Drug Smuggling

This incident adds to a series of recent cases where narcotics have been smuggled using unconventional methods, including concealment in everyday objects.

Airports across India have increased vigilance and strengthened screening procedures to curb such activities.

Law enforcement agencies continue to monitor international routes closely, especially those considered high-risk for drug trafficking.

Strict Action Against Drug Offences

Under Indian law, possession and trafficking of narcotic substances attract strict penalties, including imprisonment and heavy fines.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on drug smuggling and ensuring that such attempts are detected and prevented at entry points.

The case serves as a reminder of the evolving tactics used by smugglers and the importance of continuous surveillance and intelligence-based enforcement.
