CBSE Releases 2026 Class 10, 12 Theory–Practical Marks Breakup

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a comprehensive notification detailing the complete assessment structure for the 2026 Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations. The circular includes the subject-wise breakup of theory, practical, project, and internal assessment marks, giving schools and students an early and transparent view of this year’s evaluation process.

Practical Exams Scheduled From January 1 to February 14, 2026

CBSE has announced that all practical exams, project assessments, and internal evaluations for Classes 10 and 12 will be conducted between January 1 and February 14, 2026.

Schools have been urged to strictly adhere to this schedule and avoid delays. The board emphasised that errors in uploading internal and practical marks—which have been frequent in previous years—will not be corrected later under any circumstances.

Subject-Wise Marks Distribution Released

The board has published detailed marking schemes for every Class 10 and 12 subject on its official portal. The annexures include:

  • Complete list of subject codes and subject names

  • Maximum marks for theory, practical, project work, and internal assessment

  • Whether an external examiner is required

  • Details on practical answer books to be provided by CBSE

  • Specifications of theory answer books, including number of pages

This structured breakdown is intended to help schools conduct assessments accurately and prevent procedural lapses.

Schools Told to Follow Instructions Fully

CBSE has reiterated that all affiliated schools must thoroughly read the circular and annexures before conducting any exam-related activity. The board made it clear that it will not accept requests for corrections or modifications later, reinforcing the need for meticulous compliance this year.

Every Subject Totals 100 Marks

CBSE confirmed that each subject carries 100 marks, distributed across:

  • Theory

  • Practical

  • Project work

  • Internal assessment

The weightage varies by subject and has been clearly listed in the board's annexure.

With the 2026 board exam cycle approaching, CBSE’s early release of the complete marking scheme aims to ensure clarity, accuracy, and smoother execution across schools nationwide. The detailed subject-wise breakup is expected to help both schools and students plan their preparation and assessment processes more effectively.
