France and Spain are set to battle for a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, with two contrasting football philosophies colliding in one of the tournament's biggest matches. While France have relied on explosive counter-attacking football led by Kylian Mbappe, Spain have impressed with disciplined possession, defensive solidity and midfield control orchestrated by Rodri and Pedri.
The first semi-final will be played at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with the winner advancing to the World Cup final.
Spain enter the contest after conceding just one goal throughout the tournament, whereas France boast one of the competition's most dangerous attacking units featuring Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Michael Olise.
The spotlight will firmly be on Kylian Mbappe and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
Mbappe arrives as one of the tournament's leading scorers with eight goals and three assists, continuing his remarkable World Cup record. Meanwhile, Yamal has emerged as Spain's biggest attacking weapon and will be looking to guide his country into its first World Cup final since 2010.
Speaking ahead of the match, Yamal expressed confidence in Spain's recent record against France.
"If France has to fear anyone, it's us. We've beaten them twice."
Mbappe, however, remained focused on the bigger picture, insisting France have "not achieved anything yet."
France have progressed through the tournament by relying on pace, quick transitions and clinical finishing. Didier Deschamps' side have repeatedly punished opponents with rapid counter-attacks led by Mbappe and Dembele.
Spain, on the other hand, have dominated matches through patient build-up play, midfield control and a disciplined defensive structure. Rodri and Pedri have dictated the tempo, while Aymeric Laporte and Pau Cubarsi have formed one of the strongest defensive partnerships at the tournament.
The midfield battle is expected to play a decisive role in determining which team reaches the final.
Spain have enjoyed the upper hand in recent meetings against France, including victories at UEFA Euro 2024 and the UEFA Nations League.
