Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta meet Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow ahead of Batwara 1947 release

Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on August 7 while promoting their upcoming film Batwara 1947. The actors, along with Sunny's son Karan Deol, were in the city for promotional events ahead of the film's worldwide theatrical release on August 14.

Photos from the meeting were shared on social media by both Sunny Deol and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. Sharing the pictures on Instagram, Sunny wrote that it was a pleasure to meet Yogi Adityanath and described their interaction as a warm and pleasant conversation.

Yogi Adityanath also posted photographs from the meeting on X, calling it a courtesy meeting with the renowned film actors at his official residence in Lucknow.

Batwara 1947 explores the human cost of Partition

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Batwara 1947 is a period drama set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition. The film stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh and Karan Deol in pivotal roles.

The story follows a family whose lives are shattered by the violence and displacement caused during Partition. Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta play a married couple whose lives change dramatically after Independence. As communal tensions escalate, Sunny's character fights to protect his family while also defending an elderly Hindu woman, played by Shabana Azmi, who refuses to leave her ancestral home after Partition.

The trailer highlights themes of humanity, compassion and communal harmony. One of the film's key dialogues emphasises that hatred has no place in religion and reinforces the idea that humanity comes before religious identity.

Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol reunite after nearly three decades

Batwara 1947 marks the reunion of director Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol after almost 30 years. The film is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under Aamir Khan Productions.

Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman has composed the music, while veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar has penned the songs.

The Partition drama is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026, coinciding with Partition Day.
