Jemima Goldsmith Appeals to Elon Musk Over Alleged Suppression of Imran Khan Posts

Jemima Goldsmith, the former wife of jailed Pakistani ex-prime minister Imran Khan, has publicly appealed to X owner Elon Musk, alleging that the platform is suppressing her posts related to Khan’s detention and treatment in prison.

In a direct message addressed to Musk, Goldsmith claimed that Khan has been held for nearly two years in what she described as “brutal solitary confinement” following his removal from office in 2022. She said their two sons have been denied access to their father, have not spoken to him for months, and are not even allowed to send letters.

Goldsmith further alleged that Khan’s name has effectively disappeared from Pakistani television and radio, leaving X as “the only independent platform” to raise concerns about his imprisonment. However, she claimed that her own visibility on the platform has now been curtailed.

Citing analysis by Grok, X’s artificial intelligence tool, Goldsmith alleged that her account has been subjected to algorithmic throttling. Despite having more than 3.5 million followers, she claimed her reach has collapsed sharply, particularly on posts highlighting Khan’s jail conditions and his family’s inability to meet him.

According to figures she shared, her account generated hundreds of millions of impressions per month during 2023 and early 2024, but total impressions for 2025 stood at just over 28 million — a decline of nearly 97 per cent. She pointed to May 2025 as a turning point, claiming that her reach briefly surged after Pakistan lifted its ban on X, only to drop sharply again soon after.

Goldsmith alleged that Grok attributed the decline in visibility to pressure from Pakistani authorities, who she claimed were closely monitoring criticism from Khan’s immediate family. “You promised free speech, not speech but no one hears it,” she wrote, urging Musk to intervene.

Her appeal drew support from several international commentators, including British journalist Piers Morgan, who criticised what he described as the suppression of content supporting Imran Khan and called for the protection of his basic human rights.

The appeal comes amid renewed protests by Khan’s family and supporters. Earlier this week, Khan’s sister Aleema Khan accused authorities of subjecting him to torture and keeping him in illegal isolation at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Family members have repeatedly alleged they are being denied visitation rights despite regular attempts.

Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been in custody since August 2023 following convictions in multiple cases. His detention has drawn international scrutiny, with a UN human rights panel last year describing it as arbitrary and in violation of international law — a claim rejected by the Pakistani government.
