Maharashtra ATS Probe Finds Suspected Radicalisation Network Targeting Youths via Football Clubs

A major security probe in Maharashtra has uncovered a suspected radicalisation network allegedly targeting young football enthusiasts in parts of the state. The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) conducted coordinated raids at 21 locations across Yavatmal and Ahilyanagar districts after receiving intelligence inputs about activities linked to possible extremist influence.

According to officials, the investigation focused on areas where football is popular among local youth, particularly in the Pusad region. Authorities suspect that certain football-related platforms and clubs may have been used to identify and influence vulnerable individuals. The region has a large number of Muslim children and teenagers who actively participate in football through local clubs and community initiatives.

During the raids, several suspects were detained for questioning, and authorities seized swords, electronic devices, CCTV footage, and documents believed to be relevant to the investigation. Officials stated that the recovered materials are being carefully analysed to determine the extent and nature of the alleged network.

Investigators believe that boys who showed interest or involvement in football were selectively identified and approached. The suspected activities reportedly included attempts to influence and indoctrinate vulnerable youths. Preliminary findings have also suggested that some individuals may have been sent outside Maharashtra as part of the suspected radicalisation process, raising additional security concerns.

Search operations carried out by the ATS across multiple locations provided crucial leads regarding the structure and functioning of the suspected network. CCTV footage collected from various sites is being examined to trace movements, meetings, and possible links between individuals involved.
