7 Dead, Over 30 Districts Flooded as Heavy Rain Ravages Maharashtra

At least seven people have died and 10 others injured after relentless rainfall and flooding hit Maharashtra, affecting over 30 districts and causing widespread agricultural and residential damage. Districts including Nanded, Solapur, Yavatmal, Dharashiv, Beed, Ahilyanagar, and Washim are among the worst hit.

Since June 1, the state has recorded 996.7 mm of rainfall, 103.57% above the average, damaging crops across 69.95 lakh acres. The worst-affected tehsils include Nanded (18.20 lakh acres), Solapur (9.95 lakh acres), Yavatmal (8.56 lakh acres), and Dharashiv (8.29 lakh acres).

Relief and Compensation:
The Maharashtra government has announced a Rs 2,215 crore compensation package for approximately 31.64 lakh farmers, with Rs 1,829 crore already allocated to farmers’ bank accounts within 8–10 days. Immediate aid is being provided for crop, property, and livestock losses.

Rescue Operations:
17 NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed, rescuing 27 individuals by helicopter, and villagers are being relocated with arrangements for food, water, and shelter. The Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, is scheduled to visit affected areas, while district officials continue on-ground assessments.

With forecasts of more heavy rain on September 27–28, the administration has urged citizens to take precautions. Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar has demanded a declaration of “wet drought” and additional compensation to farmers.

The state agriculture department will continue assessments to determine further relief measures for the affected population.
