Ashes 2025: Joe Root Eyes Team Success Over Personal Milestones in Australia

England’s batting stalwart Joe Root has signaled a fresh approach ahead of the Ashes 2025 series in Australia. The five-Test series kicks off on November 21 in Perth, and Root believes England will challenge Australia with a new mindset, positive strategies, and an attacking style of play.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Root expressed confidence in England’s revamped approach, highlighting that a combination of fresh team selection and innovative strategies could trouble the hosts.

"It's a big series against a side with a great record at home, especially against us previously. But I think this is the first time we can hit them with something slightly different," Root said. "We're going out there with a different team, a different mentality, a different way of playing. We've played some good cricket of late, and hopefully that stands us in good stead."

Century in Australia Remains Elusive

Despite Root’s stellar Test career, he is yet to score a century on Australian soil. Across 14 matches and 27 innings, he has accumulated 892 runs at an average of 35.68, with a highest score of 89 and nine fifties. However, Root insists that personal milestones are secondary to the team’s goal.

"This tour is not about me making 100. It is about us going and winning an Ashes series. If I go out and make big scores, that will give us a great opportunity, but the focus is on the team," he added.

Root emphasized the importance of building strong partnerships and collective performances, which could provide England a genuine chance to reclaim the Ashes urn for the first time since 2015.

England’s squad, led by Ben Stokes and guided by coach Brendon McCullum, hopes to combine the aggressive "Bazball" approach with tactical consistency to break Australia’s home dominance.
