Delhi University Mop-Up Round Opens With Low Response, Only 73 UG Seats Filled on Day One

Delhi University (DU) has launched its on-the-spot mop-up round for undergraduate admissions, but the opening day saw limited participation. According to officials, only 73 BA Honours seats were filled on Tuesday, despite hundreds of students being invited. Nearly 7,000 seats remain vacant across colleges and programmes.

The mop-up round was introduced after multiple admission cycles left thousands of seats unclaimed.

Reserved Categories Invited First
On the first day, candidates from reserved categories—excluding Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Unreserved (UR) categories—were called. Around 876 students were invited for nearly 1,700 BA Honours seats, but fewer than 100 completed admissions. University officials said that around 7,000 seats are still open, including approximately 2,000 under the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) quota.

Admission Schedule for Coming Days
On Wednesday, about 2,600 OBC and UR candidates will be considered for BA Honours programmes. BCom and Economics admissions are scheduled for Thursday, followed by science subjects on Friday. The mop-up round will conclude on September 29, and authorities have confirmed it will not be extended. Vacant seats after this date will remain unfilled for the academic year.

Selection Based on Class 12 Marks
Unlike the regular process that relies on Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores, the mop-up round is being conducted on the basis of Class 12 board results. This provides an alternative for students who performed better in board exams but could not secure seats through CUET.
