Pakistan Anti-Terror Court Issues Fourth Non-Bailable Warrant Against Aleema Khan

A Pakistani Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Aleema Khan, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, for repeatedly failing to appear in court.

Repeated Absences Lead to Warrant

  • This marks the fourth non-bailable warrant issued against Aleema in connection with the November 26, 2023 PTI protests.

  • Her lawyer’s plea for exemption from personal appearance was rejected, as she is to be formally charged with criminal offences linked to the protests.

  • The court directed law enforcement to produce her before the next hearing and confiscated her surety bond, asking for a new one worth Rs 1 million.

Police Officers Warned for Misleading Reports

  • The ATC issued a show-cause notice to SP Saad Arshad and DSP Naeem for submitting a bogus report claiming Aleema was in hiding.

  • Court observations indicated she had been seen at Adiala Jail and active on social media, contradicting the police report.

Background: PTI Protests and Legal Action

  • The November 2023 protest involved over 10,000 PTI supporters clashing with 20,000 police and paramilitary personnel in Islamabad.

  • The government filed cases against PTI leaders and activists under Pakistan Penal Code provisions and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

  • The ATC warned that further non-compliance from Aleema would be addressed “in accordance with the law.”
