Donald Trump May Skip Quad Summit in India Amid Trade Tensions: Report

U.S. President Donald Trump may skip the upcoming Quad summit in India, according to reports citing ongoing trade and tariff-related frictions between Washington and New Delhi.

The potential absence of Trump from this high-level meeting has raised questions about whether it is a tactical move to exert pressure on India or a possible indication of a shift in the United States’ Indo-Pacific strategy.

This development comes as India strengthens its position in global geopolitics, playing a key role in multiple strategic groupings. Apart from being a founding member of BRICS, India is an active participant in the Quad and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), underscoring its influence in shaping a multipolar world order.

While defence and technology ties between India and the U.S. remain robust, trade disputes continue to be a major sticking point in bilateral relations. Analysts suggest that these tensions could have implications for strategic cooperation going forward.

One analyst remarked, “India is too strong a country for any nation, including the U.S., to dictate terms. The global power equation is changing, and both countries will have to recalibrate their engagement carefully.”

The Quad summit was expected to serve as a platform for deepening cooperation on security, technology, and economic matters among India, the U.S., Japan, and Australia. If President Trump skips the summit, it could alter the strategic messaging of the grouping at a time when global uncertainties are on the rise.
