FIFA Rankings: India Slips to 134, Spain Returns to No.1

India has slipped one spot to 134 in the latest FIFA rankings, despite a commendable performance in the CAFA Nations Cup in Tajikistan, where the team finished third. Under coach Khalid Jamil, India defeated Oman on penalties in the play-off earlier this year and will next face Singapore in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers in October.

Spain has reclaimed the top position, ending Argentina’s two-year reign as world No.1. The European champions began their World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign with dominant wins over Bulgaria (3-0) and Türkiye (6-0), marking their first top-ranking position since June 2014.

France moved up to second following consecutive wins over Ukraine and Iceland, while Argentina dropped to third. Germany slipped out of the top 10 to 12th after a surprising 2-0 loss to Slovakia, who jumped ten spots to 42nd. Portugal rose to fifth, with Italy completing the top 10. Canada and Kosovo also recorded historic ranking highs at 26th and 91st, respectively.
