Heavy Rains Trigger Flooding in Hyderabad; Low-Lying Areas Evacuated

Hyderabad experienced heavy rainfall on Friday, causing widespread flooding across several areas, including the Old City. The overflowing River Musi, coupled with lifted gates at Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs, has heightened the risk for residents in low-lying neighborhoods.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy ordered immediate evacuations from vulnerable zones to ensure public safety. Residents were shifted to relief camps, where authorities are providing food, water, and essential supplies. Emergency teams remain on high alert, monitoring water levels and coordinating rescue operations.

Officials have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay updated with weather alerts, and follow instructions issued by local authorities. The government has also deployed disaster management teams to support evacuation and relief efforts, highlighting the administration’s proactive measures to tackle urban flooding.

Meteorologists have warned that the city may continue to receive heavy showers over the next 24–48 hours, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further disruptions.
