Jemimah Rodrigues Ruled Out of Australia ODIs, India Faces Pre-World Cup Setback

India’s Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against Australia due to viral fever, raising concerns ahead of the Women’s World Cup starting on September 30. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur confirmed the news at the toss before the second ODI at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, while the BCCI issued an official statement monitoring her recovery.

Jemimah played in the opening ODI, scoring 18 runs off 26 balls, before being dismissed by Tahlia McGrath. For the second ODI, India made two changes: Arundhati Reddy and Renuka Singh replaced Jemimah and Sree Charani. Renuka Singh returns to international cricket after recovering from a stress fracture sustained during the Women’s Premier League 2025.

Tejal Hasabnis has been called up as Jemimah’s replacement for the remainder of the series. The 28-year-old has played six ODIs since her debut last year, scoring 140 runs at an average of 46.66, including a top score of 53* against Ireland. She is also among the standby players for the World Cup alongside Prema Rawat, Priya Mishra, Uma Chetry, Minnu Mani, and Sayali Satghare.

Jemimah’s absence is a notable concern for India, who begin their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka at Barsapara Stadium, Indore. The updated Indian ODI squad for the series against Australia includes Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Renuka Singh Thakur, Arundhati Reddy, Richa Ghosh (WK), Kranti Gaud, Sayali Satghare, Radha Yadav, Sree Charani, Sneh Rana, Uma Chetry (WK), and Tejal Hasabnis.
