Jimmy Kimmel Returns with Emotional Monologue on Charlie Kirk Shooting and Trump

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel returned to TV after a week-long suspension with an emotional and teary-eyed monologue, addressing the controversial shooting of Trump aide Charlie Kirk and criticism from former President Donald Trump.

Kimmel clarified that it was never his intention to make light of Kirk’s death, nor to blame any specific group. He praised Kirk’s wife, Erica, for forgiving the shooter and expressed heartfelt remorse for the tragedy.

The ABC host, a known Trump critic, also roasted Trump for his comments against Kimmel’s return. He said, “He tried his best to cancel me… A government threat to silence a comedian the President doesn’t like is anti-American.”

The controversy arose after Kimmel suggested on his show that Trump loyalists might have politicized Kirk’s killing. ABC had initially suspended the show indefinitely but resumed after public backlash, including support from media personalities and some Republicans.

Kimmel’s 20-minute monologue blended emotion, sarcasm, and social commentary, reaffirming his commitment to speak freely while navigating the fine line of humor and tragedy.
