Late Actor Asrani’s Final Films ‘Bhooth Bangla’ and ‘Haiwaan’ to Release in 2026

Veteran Bollywood actor Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani, will be seen on the big screen one last time in two upcoming films — Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan. Both projects, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan, are slated for release in 2026, marking the final curtain call for the comedy legend who entertained generations with his impeccable timing and charm.

Asrani passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 84 following a prolonged illness. He had been admitted to Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai, four days prior to his demise. According to his personal assistant, doctors reported fluid accumulation in his lungs. His last rites were performed at the Santacruz Crematorium, attended by family and close friends.

A Legacy of Laughter and Collaboration
Director Priyadarshan, who had a long-standing creative partnership with Asrani, is helming both films. The duo previously worked together on several comedy blockbusters such as Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, and De Dana Dan. Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan will now stand as fitting tributes to their enduring association.

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, who frequently shared screen space with Asrani, expressed deep sorrow over his passing. In an emotional post on X (formerly Twitter), Akshay wrote, “Speechless with grief at the passing of Asrani ji… We had just shared a warm hug during the shoot of Haiwaan. He was a lovely human being with the most legendary comic timing. From Hera Pheri to Welcome and now Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan — his presence made every film special. God bless you, Asrani sir. Om Shanti.”

Actor Rajpal Yadav, who also stars in Bhooth Bangla, paid tribute on social media, recalling Asrani’s unmatched contribution to Indian comedy: “Whether in Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Dhol, or our last film Bhooth Bangla, your magic made every scene memorable.”

Asrani’s illustrious career spanned over five decades, featuring iconic performances in films like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, and Hera Pheri. His final performances in Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan promise to bring audiences one last glimpse of his timeless humour and heartfelt artistry.
