MP Constable Recruitment 2025: 9 Lakh Apply for 7,500 Posts, Including Engineers and PhD Holders

Over 9 lakh candidates — including engineers, MBAs, postgraduates, and even PhD holders — have applied for just 7,500 constable vacancies in Madhya Pradesh, where the minimum qualification required is only Class 10. The overwhelming response to the Madhya Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2025 underscores a deepening employment crisis in the state.

According to official data, the applicant pool includes 52,000 postgraduates, 33,000 graduates, 12,000 engineers, and around 50 PhD holders. The recruitment exam is set to take place on October 30, in two shifts — from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Why Highly Educated Candidates Are Applying

Many overqualified applicants cite a lack of suitable job opportunities and the desire for job security as key reasons for applying.

Pallavi Chowkikar, an MBA graduate from Chhindwara, said, “Despite my degree, I couldn’t find a good job here. The one I got was outside MP, but family responsibilities forced me to stay back. So, I applied for this exam.”

Similarly, Nidhi Dhote, who holds an MSc in Mathematics from Betul, shared, “I couldn’t find any suitable job even after completing my MSc. Applying for the constable post seemed like my only option.”

For Vijay Verma from Sehore, who has both BSc and MA degrees, the motivation was cultural. “In my village, a government job is a matter of pride. Even if I’m overqualified, it brings stability and respect,” he said.

A Snapshot of India’s Job Crisis

The flood of applications for a high school–level position illustrates the widening gap between education and employment in India. With limited opportunities in both public and private sectors, highly qualified youth are turning to entry-level government jobs for security and stability.

This trend reflects a broader national issue — rising unemployment despite increasing educational attainment. Economists warn that unless private sector hiring improves and state-level job creation policies are strengthened, such patterns will continue to intensify.
