Police Assault Journalists at Islamabad Press Club Amid POK Protests

Unrest in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) spilled into the Pakistani capital as protests reached Islamabad, prompting a police crackdown at the National Press Club.

Visuals emerging from the scene showed police assaulting journalists with batons, destroying media equipment, and dragging protesters outside.

The crackdown occurred while lawyers from the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (AAC) were holding a peaceful protest against alleged atrocities and an ongoing internet blackout in POK.

According to reports, police chased protesters into the press club after a brawl outside, subsequently using lathicharge inside the facility, with journalists caught in the assault.

The incident sparked widespread outrage across Pakistan. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered an immediate probe into the matter.

The attack has raised concerns over press freedom, safety of journalists, and the handling of dissent related to POK by Pakistani authorities.
