Prasoon Joshi Receives National Kishore Kumar Award from MP Government

Renowned lyricist and writer Prasoon Joshi has been honoured with the National Kishore Kumar Award 2024 by the Madhya Pradesh government. The prestigious recognition was presented during a ceremony in Khandwa, the birthplace of legendary playback singer Kishore Kumar, on Tuesday night.

The award celebrates Joshi’s outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, particularly in the field of lyric writing. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who attended the ceremony virtually from Bhopal, praised Kishore Kumar as a “precious gem” of the state and recalled his remarkable versatility and charm.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Yadav wrote, “Kishore Kumar Ji was a multifaceted artist. His style was unique. The award ceremony organised in his memory will continue annually for two days. On this occasion, lyricist and writer Shri @prasoonjoshi_ Ji was honoured with the National Kishore Kumar Award.”

Prasoon Joshi Expresses Gratitude
Speaking to the media after receiving the honour, Joshi said he felt deeply moved to receive an award named after Kishore Kumar. “I am fortunate to be honoured with this award in Kishore Da’s memory. It’s a matter of great pride for me. People with a personality and talent like Kishore Da are rare, and we cherish him,” he said.

He further reflected on the singer’s lasting legacy, adding, “No matter how much respect Kishore Da has received, it is still less. The true respect is the one that resides in people’s hearts and endures forever. Kishore Da will always receive everyone’s love.”

Apart from his celebrated work as a lyricist for films like Taare Zameen Par (2007), Joshi has also written the theatrical mega-musical Rajadhiraaj: Love, Life, Leela. His career continues to blend creative excellence with emotional depth, much like the spirit of the award he has now received.

The National Kishore Kumar Award, instituted by the Madhya Pradesh government, honours individuals who have made significant contributions to Indian cinema and the arts.
