PV Sindhu Exits China Masters After Quarterfinal Loss to World No.1 An Se Young

PV Sindhu’s campaign at the China Masters Super 750 badminton tournament in Shenzhen ended in the quarterfinals with a straight-games defeat to World No.1 An Se Young of Korea. The two-time Olympic medallist went down 14-21, 13-21 in 38 minutes, unable to match the Korean’s precision and consistency on court.

The loss extends Sindhu’s winless streak against An Se Young to 0-8, with the Indian managing just one game victory across all encounters. Despite strong performances in earlier rounds—21-4, 21-10 against Denmark’s Julie Dawall Jakobsen and 21-15, 21-15 over World No.6 Pornpawee Chochuwong—Sindhu struggled to find her rhythm against the Korean, committing unforced errors and appearing rushed under pressure.

An Se Young, in contrast, maintained her dominant form throughout the tournament. Having defeated Natsuki Nidaira and Mia Blichfeldt in earlier rounds, she now advances to the semifinals, where she will face the winner between Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi and Indonesia’s Putri Wardani.

Sindhu’s exit prolongs her search for a semifinal appearance on the 2025 BWF World Tour, highlighting ongoing challenges in overcoming top-ranked opponents despite flashes of brilliance in recent tournaments.
