SCO Summit 2025: PM Modi Front Row in Historic Family Photo with Xi Jinping and Putin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was prominently positioned in the front row of the official family photo at the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit held in Tianjin, China. The photo captured world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a banquet hosted by Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, to welcome international guests.

In the photo, Xi Jinping, as the host, stands at the centre flanked by his wife and Putin. PM Modi is positioned in the front row alongside Xi, Putin, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This marked the first appearance of Modi and Sharif sharing the same platform since India’s Operation Sindoor precision strikes.

The summit saw participation from regular SCO members—China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus—as well as Observer States, Dialogue Partners, invited guests, and representatives from international organisations including the UN, ASEAN, and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

During his two-day visit to China, Modi is set to hold bilateral discussions with Putin, particularly in the context of escalating US tariffs imposed under President Donald Trump’s trade policies.
