India celebrated a golden day at the World Para Athletics Championships 2025 in New Delhi as Simran Sharma and Nishad Kumar clinched historic gold medals.

Simran Sharma sprinted to victory in the women’s 100m T12 final, clocking a personal best of 11.95 seconds with her guide Umar Saifi, earning India’s first medal of the day. Born prematurely and visually impaired, Simran’s triumph is a testament to her resilience and determination.

Meanwhile, Nishad Kumar soared to glory in the men’s high jump T47, setting an Asian record of 2.14m on his 26th birthday. This marked his maiden world championship gold, defeating five-time world champion Roderick Townsend and adding to his impressive Paralympic silver and world championship medal tally.

Additional medal wins from Preethi Pal (200m T35) and Pardeep Kumar (discus throw F64) made it India’s most successful day at the championships, with four medals helping India climb to fourth in the standings.

With six golds, five silvers, and four bronzes so far, India is on track to surpass its record 17-medal haul from Kobe 2024. Fans celebrated Simran’s fiery dash and Nishad’s soaring leap, highlighting the growing strength and promise of Indian para athletes.
