Stock Market Holidays in September: BSE and NSE Trading Schedule

With the festive season extending from late August into September and October, investors may be curious about upcoming stock market holidays. Following the closure on Wednesday, August 27, for Ganesh Chaturthi, there will be no additional market holidays in September. Considering regular weekends, the Indian stock market will remain closed for eight days in September.

Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will observe three trading holidays in October, coinciding with festivals such as Dussehra, Diwali, and Balipratipada, along with the national holiday for Gandhi Jayanti.

Indian Stock Market Performance in 2025

Equity indices have delivered modest gains this year, with Nifty 50 up nearly 3% and Sensex rising almost 2%. Performance has been evenly split month-to-month, with gains in four months and declines in four months. Notably, Sensex fell 1.7% in August following a nearly 3% drop in July, while the indices experienced positive momentum from March to June, adding around 14%.

Looking ahead, analysts remain cautious as US-imposed tariffs are expected to influence market trends. However, GST reforms and any potential reversal of foreign institutional investor (FII) flows could present both opportunities and risks.
