Telangana ASI Satyanarayana Dies by Suicide; Haryana IPS Officer’s Death Adds to Concerns

In Telangana, tragedy struck the police force as Assistant Sub-Inspector Satyanarayana, posted in the Special Branch unit of Suryapet district, died by suicide at his home on Saturday afternoon. The 54-year-old officer was found hanging around 1.30 pm at his residence. Authorities noted that he had been struggling with persistent health complications following an accident a year ago.

“The preliminary investigation suggests he was under distress due to his health problems. A case has been registered and a probe is underway,” stated the Sub Inspector of Suryapet Rural Police Station. Officials are conducting further inquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The death comes days after a similar tragedy in Haryana, where senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, 52, a 2001-batch officer, took his life on October 7. Kumar was found with a gunshot wound in the basement of his Sector 11 residence. A final note attributed to him accused eight senior IPS officers, including Haryana DGP Kapur and former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, of harassment and maligning him. Kumar also mentioned instances of alleged caste-based discrimination by fellow officers.

In response to public outrage, the Haryana government transferred Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, while Chandigarh Police formed a six-member SIT led by IG Pushpendra Kumar to conduct a “prompt, impartial, and thorough investigation” into the senior officer’s death.

These consecutive incidents of police suicides have reignited discussions around mental health challenges and workplace harassment in India’s law enforcement agencies, highlighting the urgent need for support mechanisms for officers facing professional and personal stress.
