Vinicius Jr. Double Leads Real Madrid to Top of LaLiga Table

Real Madrid moved to the top of the LaLiga table with a 3-1 victory against Villarreal at Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, October 5. Vinicius Jr. scored twice, including a penalty, while Kylian Mbappe added a late goal to secure Madrid’s seventh league win of the season, putting them two points clear of Barcelona.

The match was tightly contested in the first half, with limited chances for both sides. Real Madrid grew into the game after the 20th minute, with Aurelien Tchouameni heading wide and Mbappe nearly exploiting defensive errors. Villarreal’s best chance came from Tani Oluwaseyi, but Thibaut Courtois made a crucial save to keep the first half goalless.

The breakthrough came early in the second half when Vinicius Jr. cut inside from the left and scored with a deflected shot off Santi Comesana. He later won a penalty after being fouled by Rafa Marin and converted it to double Real’s lead in the 69th minute. Villarreal’s Georges Mikautadze quickly pulled one back, but their hopes ended when Santiago Mourino was sent off for a second yellow card. Mbappe finished a counterattack in the 80th minute to seal the 3-1 win.

Manager Xabi Alonso praised Vinicius Jr., saying, "He was decisive and had a great attitude. He was close to a hat-trick, and most importantly, he looked happy out there." Alonso also highlighted the team’s focus and patience in a hard-fought game.

With this win, Real Madrid lead LaLiga with 21 points, while Barcelona sit two points behind. Villarreal remain third with 16 points as the season progresses.
