Manchester United Players Show Full Support for Ruben Amorim After Sunderland Win

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim expressed satisfaction with his squad’s support following their 2-0 victory against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday. Goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko helped ease pressure on the Portuguese coach, who has achieved nine Premier League wins in 33 matches since his November appointment.

The match saw a positive atmosphere, with fans singing Amorim’s name and showing renewed backing. Mount, chosen ahead of Matheus Cunha, opened the scoring with a composed finish, while Sesko scored his first goal at Old Trafford. Sunderland tried to respond by switching to a 3-4-3 formation but struggled to create clear-cut chances. Despite efforts from Bertrand Traore and Granit Xhaka, a penalty against Sesko was ruled out by VAR.

United dominated the game and were denied further goals by Robin Roefs’ brilliant saves, including a fingertip stop from Bruno Fernandes. Debutant Senne Lammens kept a clean sheet in goal for United. The win moves Manchester United to ninth in the Premier League, just one point behind Sunderland in sixth. Their next league challenge comes after the international break at Anfield against Liverpool.

Reflecting on the squad’s commitment, Amorim said:
"I saw today that I know the players want to do their best and I know they don't want to change the coach. We need to show that with our actions. Sometimes when we look at our team, I know for sure we can do better. I feel it during the week but we need to show it on the pitch."

He added that maintaining momentum remains a challenge:
"There is no momentum with our team. We know what happens when we win one game; the frustration is not to see the same team at home and away. If we cannot play well, we must stop the opposition playing well, and that’s the way a big team plays during the season."
