Violence Against Hindus in Bangladesh: Yunus Denies Reports, Calls Claims ‘Fake News’

Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, has dismissed reports of violence against Hindus in the country, calling them “fake news” allegedly circulated by India.

He stated that local disputes over land and community issues are “normal conflicts” and should not be portrayed as communal incidents. Yunus also rejected international reports of attacks on Hindus following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government last year and questioned claims made by former US President Donald Trump regarding minority treatment.

Yunus urged Hindus in Bangladesh to identify first as Bangladeshi citizens rather than solely as members of the Hindu community, emphasizing that state protection is guaranteed for all citizens regardless of religion.

The Indian government, however, has expressed concern over the rising incidents of violence, extremist rhetoric, and provocation against minorities in Bangladesh.

This ongoing debate highlights tensions over minority protection in Bangladesh and the role of international media in shaping perceptions of communal safety.
