Indian archers Sheetal Devi and Sarita scripted history on September 26, 2025, by becoming the first Indian pair to reach the final of the Women’s Compound Team event at the World Archery Para Championships in South Korea.
The Indian duo defeated the top-seeded Great Britain team of Phoebe Paterson Pine and Jessica Stretton in a thrilling semi-final, securing a spot in the summit clash. Their victory also guarantees India at least four medals at the championship, marking the country’s best-ever tally in the event.
The semi-final began with India setting the pace, scoring 38 in the first set, a point ahead of the British pair. Both teams were neck-and-neck in the second round, scoring 38 each, but the top seeds faltered in the third round with a 36, while Sheetal and Sarita responded with 39, building a four-point lead going into the final set. The British team scored 39 in the last round, but India held on to win 152-150, sealing their place in the final.
Individual Aspirations:
Sheetal, already a finalist in the Women’s Compound Individual event, will aim to claim double gold, while Sarita looks to secure her second world title, having previously won the mixed team category.
Other Results:
In the Men’s Compound Team event, Rakesh Kumar and Toman Kumar were eliminated in the quarterfinals, losing 150-152 to Canada. India’s campaign in the W1 and recurve categories remained medalless for the second consecutive edition. After Harvinder Singh’s withdrawal, the men’s recurve team did not compete, and the women’s team fell to Korea in the quarter-finals.
India’s historic triumph in the Women’s Compound Team event highlights the growing strength of Indian archery on the global para stage.
