Yashasvi Jaiswal Eyes Record-Breaking Knock Against West Indies

India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed on Day 1 of the second Test against the West Indies in Delhi, remaining unbeaten on 173. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra believes this innings could be setting the stage for something historic — a personal milestone that might take Indian Test batting into uncharted territory.

A Disciplined Approach

Jaiswal’s performance stood out for its patience and control. Chopra noted that, unlike some of his previous 150+ scores which featured aggressive aerial shots, Jaiswal restrained his natural attacking instincts.

“22 boundaries, and not a single one in the air. He’s taking his time. It feels like his focus is on something far bigger — a goal that lies somewhere in the realm of imagination. No Indian has gone there yet, but it’s on the table,” said Chopra.

Chasing Records

India’s highest individual Test score is 319 by Virender Sehwag against South Africa in 2008, with Karun Nair the only other Indian to cross 300. Chopra points out that if Jaiswal maintains his composure, he could challenge these records and aim even higher.

“Whoever you’re playing against, if you reach that milestone, you go and claim it. You’ve earned it,” he added, emphasizing that the team should let him bat until the last wicket if necessary.

The Stage is Set

As Jaiswal returns for Day 2, cricket fans eagerly anticipate whether the 22-year-old can convert his unbeaten 173 into a historic innings. With discipline, focus, and patience, he has the potential to deliver one of the most remarkable knocks in India’s Test history.
