Nick Reiner Appears in Court in Parents’ Murder Case

Nick Reiner, son of Rob and Michele Reiner, made his first court appearance on Wednesday in connection with the murder of his parents at their Brentwood home in Los Angeles. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community and drawn national attention.

According to court proceedings reported by Variety, Reiner did not enter a plea and agreed to postpone his arraignment to January 7. His initial appearance had been delayed due to medical concerns following his arrest.

Police found Rob and Michele Reiner dead at their residence on December 14. Nick Reiner was taken into custody later that evening in Exposition Park near the University of Southern California. He has remained in custody without bail since his arrest.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman formally announced the charges during a press conference on December 16. Reiner has been charged with two counts of murder, with prosecutors alleging the use of a knife in the killings. Authorities have also invoked a special circumstance of multiple murders, which opens the possibility of the death penalty under California law.

In court, Reiner was seen wearing a blue suicide-prevention vest and restraints. He spoke briefly, only acknowledging the postponement of the arraignment. His attorney, Alan Jackson, urged patience as the legal process unfolds but declined to comment on his client’s mental state.

The case has renewed attention on capital punishment in Los Angeles County. Hochman recently reinstated the option of seeking the death penalty after a moratorium imposed by his predecessor. However, California has not carried out an execution since 2006, and Governor Gavin Newsom has maintained a statewide moratorium on the death penalty since 2019.

In a joint statement, Jake and Romy Reiner, siblings of the accused, expressed profound grief over the loss of their parents. They thanked the public for its support and appealed for privacy and compassion, asking that Rob and Michele Reiner be remembered for their lives and the love they shared.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths as the legal proceedings move forward.
