Pakistan Offers Troops for Gaza Peacekeeping But Refuses Role in Disarming Hamas

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has announced that Islamabad is willing to send security forces to Gaza as part of an international peacekeeping mission—provided the deployment takes place under a clear United Nations Security Council (UNSC) mandate. However, Dar made it unequivocally clear that Pakistani troops will not take part in disarming Hamas, stating, “Disarming Hamas is not our work.”

According to India Today Global’s Pranay Upadhyay, Pakistan is attempting a delicate diplomatic balancing act. On one hand, it wants to align itself with the Gaza peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. On the other, Islamabad faces intense domestic pressure from political groups and civil society, urging the government not to take actions perceived as hostile to Hamas.

The offer to deploy forces reflects Pakistan’s attempt to maintain strategic relevance in Middle Eastern diplomacy while managing internal sensitivities tied to the Palestinian cause. The government has emphasised that its role would be limited strictly to peacekeeping and humanitarian support—not military operations against Palestinian factions.

Pakistan’s position marks a nuanced stance: willing to contribute to regional stability but firmly opposed to any role in dismantling Hamas’ military wing.
