Former UAE Ambassador to India Hussain Hassan Mirza has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could play a crucial diplomatic role in reducing tensions between Israel and Iran amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
In a recent interview, Mirza suggested that India’s strong diplomatic relationships with both countries give it a unique position that could help encourage dialogue and reduce hostilities.
According to him, a single phone call from PM Modi to the leaders of Israel and Iran could potentially help calm the situation and initiate efforts toward de-escalation.
Mirza highlighted that India maintains positive and balanced relations with both Israel and Iran, which is not common among many global powers involved in Middle East diplomacy.
India has strong strategic and technological partnerships with Israel, particularly in areas such as defence, agriculture, and innovation. At the same time, India also shares important historical and economic ties with Iran, especially in energy trade and regional connectivity projects.
Because of these relationships, Mirza believes India can communicate with both sides in a way that encourages dialogue rather than confrontation.
The former ambassador emphasised that diplomatic engagement is essential to prevent the conflict from expanding further across the region.
He noted that leaders who maintain good relations with multiple sides in a conflict can often act as bridges for communication, helping reduce misunderstandings and encouraging negotiations.
Mirza said India’s leadership and its global reputation as a responsible diplomatic actor make it well suited to support peace efforts in the region.
The conflict between Israel and Iran has triggered serious concerns across the international community. Military exchanges and escalating tensions have raised fears that the situation could spread to other parts of the Middle East.
Global leaders and international organisations have repeatedly called for restraint and dialogue in order to prevent further escalation.
In this context, Mirza suggested that India could use its diplomatic influence to encourage both countries to move toward negotiations.
India has increasingly been recognised as an important diplomatic voice in international affairs. Over the past decade, the country has strengthened ties with multiple regions while maintaining an approach that focuses on strategic balance and cooperation.
Experts say that countries with strong relationships across geopolitical divides often have the ability to play constructive roles in conflict resolution.
While any diplomatic intervention would depend on several factors, Mirza’s remarks highlight the growing perception of India’s potential influence in global diplomacy, especially during periods of international tension.
As the conflict continues to evolve, calls for diplomatic engagement and dialogue remain central to efforts aimed at restoring stability in the region.
