Parliament Budget Session 2026 Live: Debate Likely on Motion to Remove Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

The Budget Session of Parliament 2026 is expected to witness a major political development as the Lok Sabha may take up an Opposition-backed resolution seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla. The discussion on the motion is likely to begin around 12 noon on Tuesday, making it one of the most significant debates of the ongoing session.

The issue has already intensified political discussions in Parliament, with both the government and opposition preparing for a detailed debate.

Opposition Pushes for Debate

Leaders from the INDIA bloc are expected to actively participate in the discussion on the motion seeking the removal of the Lok Sabha Speaker. Several opposition MPs are likely to present their arguments during the debate.

From the Trinamool Congress, MPs Mahua Moitra and Saayoni Ghosh are expected to speak. Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress is likely to field senior leaders including Gaurav Gogoi, Manish Tewari, and Deepender Singh Hooda as key speakers during the discussion.

Opposition leaders have indicated that the debate will focus on issues related to parliamentary functioning and the conduct of proceedings in the House.

Government to Respond in Debate

On the government’s side, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is expected to initiate the discussion in the Lok Sabha.

Several senior leaders from the ruling party are also likely to participate in the debate, including Anurag Thakur, Nishikant Dubey, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Bhartruhari Mahtab, Tejasvi Surya, and Bansuri Swaraj.

These leaders are expected to defend the government’s position and respond to the concerns raised by opposition members during the discussion.

Turbulent Start to Budget Session

The second phase of the Parliament Budget Session began with disruptions and protests in both Houses.

Opposition MPs raised slogans in the Rajya Sabha while External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar briefed Parliament about the evolving situation in the Middle East crisis.

The government had earlier rejected the opposition’s demand for a separate discussion on the issue, stating that the minister had already provided a detailed briefing in both Houses of Parliament.

Other Notices in Parliament

Several MPs have also submitted notices seeking discussions on different issues.

Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh submitted a notice in the Rajya Sabha under Rule 267 demanding a discussion on the impact of the West Asia crisis on India’s economy, energy security, businesses, and domestic fuel prices.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale also submitted a notice in the Upper House seeking discussion on another parliamentary matter.

Call for Dialogue in Parliament

BJD MP Sasmit Patra emphasised the importance of dialogue and debate during the session. He stated that the discussion on the motion regarding the Lok Sabha Speaker will be a significant moment and called on MPs across party lines to engage constructively.

He also said the government should remain open to hearing the concerns and demands raised by opposition members.

As the debate unfolds, the Parliament Budget Session is expected to witness intense political exchanges between the ruling alliance and the opposition.
