Shubhangi Atre Denies Pay Dispute, Explains Exit from Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain

Actor Shubhangi Atre has finally addressed speculation surrounding her exit from the long-running television sitcom Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain, firmly denying rumours of a pay dispute and calling her decision a natural personal and professional transition.

After nearly ten years of portraying one of Indian television’s most recognisable characters, Atre said her departure was driven by an inner calling to move forward, rather than any disagreement with the production team. Speaking in an interview, the actor revealed that the idea of stepping away had been gently reinforced by her daughter, whom she describes as both her closest confidante and toughest critic.

Atre explained that the timing of her exit aligned organically with the end of the show’s season, making the decision feel complete rather than abrupt. She emphasised that she wanted to honour her commitment to the show and its makers by completing the season before moving on. The actor recalled finishing her final shoot day on a positive note, thanking the team and bidding farewell with a celebratory gathering.

Reflecting on her journey, Atre spoke emotionally about the support she received from producer Binaifer Kohli, especially during an intensely difficult personal phase following the death of her former husband. She said the production stood by her during moments of emotional distress, allowing her the space and compassion needed to continue working.

The actor also underlined her strong work ethic, revealing that she continued shooting despite serious health issues, including high fever, to ensure schedules were met. For Atre, professional commitment was non-negotiable, even during physically and emotionally challenging times.

Addressing long-standing speculation about financial disagreements, Atre categorically dismissed claims of a salary hike demand. She stated that she strictly followed the terms of her contract throughout her decade-long association with the show and never raised pay-related concerns.

She also revealed that her commitment to Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain meant turning down several opportunities over the years, including web series, reality shows and hosting roles. As a single mother, Atre said stability and consistency were priorities, and the show remained her central focus throughout its run.

With her chapter on the sitcom now closed, Shubhangi Atre says she is ready to explore new opportunities, guided by instinct, balance and the same sincerity that defined her television journey.
