Stranger Things 5 finale runtime revealed: Last 3 episodes run nearly 3.5 hours

The finale of Stranger Things is shaping up to be a cinematic send-off, with the runtime of Season 5 Volume 2 officially revealed ahead of its global release. The final volume will premiere on Netflix in India on December 26, 2025, with episodes going live at 6:30 am IST.

Volume 2 will consist of three extended episodes, with a combined runtime of nearly three and a half hours, marking a significant departure from conventional television episode lengths. The creators have effectively positioned the finale as a trilogy-style experience, offering fans a large-scale conclusion to the long-running sci-fi drama.

The three final episodes are titled “Shock Jock” (1 hour 8 minutes), “The Bridge” (1 hour 6 minutes), and “The Rightside Up”, which alone runs for a feature-length 2 hours and 8 minutes. The unusually long duration reinforces Netflix’s intent to deliver a theatrical-scale climax to the series.

While the US audience will get access to the episodes on December 25 at 8 pm ET, Indian viewers will stream the finale the following morning. In a rare move for a streaming series, Netflix has also announced special theatrical screenings of the finale across nearly 500 cinemas in the United States, scheduled between December 31, 2025, and New Year’s Day, underlining the cultural impact of the show.

Narratively, the final volume picks up after Vecna’s abduction of 12 children, escalating the central conflict as the Hawkins group races against time to prevent further devastation. The stakes are higher than ever, with the characters forced to confront revelations that challenge everything they believed about the Upside Down.

A teaser released earlier this month hinted at major twists, with Dustin suggesting that their understanding of the Upside Down was “completely wrong.” The footage also shows Max being hunted inside a hospital setting, Lucas fighting to protect her, and Eleven seeking help from her sister Eight in a last-ditch effort to defeat Vecna.

The concluding episodes bring back the show’s core ensemble cast, including Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, and Sadie Sink, along with returning supporting characters played by Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
