Suryakumar Yadav Visits Tirupati Temple Ahead of T20 World Cup Amid Form Concerns

India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav visited the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirupati with his wife Devisha on Tuesday, seeking blessings ahead of the T20 World Cup, which begins on February 7 in Mumbai. The visit coincided with Vaikunta Ekadashi, one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar.

Dressed in traditional attire, Suryakumar briefly interacted with fans and media during the temple visit, which came during a short family break after a packed international schedule. The darshan followed India’s 3–1 T20I series win over South Africa, where Suryakumar led the side successfully despite personal batting struggles.

The 35-year-old is set to return to action in early January, representing Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, before captaining India in a five-match T20I series against New Zealand starting January 21 — a key build-up series ahead of the World Cup.

While India’s results under his leadership have been strong, Suryakumar’s batting form in 2025 has been a concern. He scored just 218 runs in 19 T20I innings at an average of 13.62 and failed to register a half-century throughout the year. His struggles continued against South Africa, where he managed only 34 runs across four innings.

Acknowledging the dip, Suryakumar recently said he is aware of what’s going wrong and remains confident of a comeback. Despite the lean patch, the selectors have backed him, retaining him as captain and including him in India’s T20 World Cup squad announced on December 20.

The Tirupati visit reflects a moment of reflection and faith as Suryakumar prepares for a crucial phase in his leadership and batting journey.
