5 Dead, 7 Injured After Van Falls Into Ravine in Maharashtra’s Amravati

A tragic road accident in Maharashtra’s Amravati district claimed five lives and left seven others seriously injured after a pickup van plunged into a deep ravine. The incident occurred on the Ranigaon Ghat road under Dharani taluka, a hilly stretch known for its narrow and winding terrain.

Authorities said the vehicle lost control before veering off the road and falling into the gorge.

Accident Occurred on Narrow Hill Road

The crash took place in the Ranigaon Ghat section, approximately two kilometres ahead of Shivazhiri. According to officials, the van was navigating the steep ghat road when it reportedly lost balance and plunged into the deep valley below.

Five passengers died at the scene due to the severity of the fall, while seven others sustained critical injuries.

Rescue Operations Faced Difficult Terrain

Rescue efforts were complicated by the narrow hill road and the depth of the ravine. Police personnel, local administration officials, and residents quickly reached the site and launched a coordinated rescue operation.

Teams worked to retrieve victims from the gorge and transport the injured to safety.

Injured Shifted to Hospital for Treatment

The injured were rescued and taken to Dharani Sub-District Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. Medical teams are monitoring their condition, and authorities said further updates will be provided as necessary.

Investigation Underway

Officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are also verifying the total number of passengers and working to identify the deceased and injured.

The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns on narrow ghat roads, where sharp turns and steep gradients often pose risks to drivers.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution while driving on hill roads, particularly in remote and difficult terrains.
