A tragic road accident in Odisha’s Nayagarh district claimed the lives of at least five people after a tourist bus lost control and crashed into a large roadside rock. The incident occurred late at night, leaving several passengers injured and causing panic among locals.
The bus was carrying more than 40 passengers at the time of the accident, many of whom were travelling for an excursion.
According to initial reports, the accident took place when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle while navigating the route. The bus then rammed into a massive rock located on the roadside.
The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to overturn, leading to severe damage and casualties. The sudden crash left passengers trapped inside, resulting in a chaotic scene.
Among the deceased were the driver and four women passengers. More than 20 people sustained injuries, some of them reported to be in serious condition.
Emergency services were immediately alerted, and injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities are closely monitoring the condition of those critically injured.
The tourist bus was travelling from Berhampur to Harishankar when the accident occurred. The journey, which was meant to be a leisure trip, turned into a tragedy within moments.
Many of the passengers onboard were families and groups travelling together, making the incident even more distressing for the affected communities.
Local police and rescue teams reached the accident site soon after receiving information. Efforts were made to evacuate passengers trapped inside the overturned bus and provide immediate medical assistance.
The damaged vehicle was later cleared from the road to restore traffic movement in the area.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary findings suggest loss of control by the driver, but officials are also examining other possible factors such as road conditions and vehicle fitness.
Officials have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially during night travel and on unfamiliar routes.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the need for strict adherence to traffic regulations. Over-speeding, driver fatigue and poor road conditions continue to be major factors behind such accidents.
Ensuring better safety measures, regular vehicle checks and responsible driving practices remain essential to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
