Ludhiana Factory Blast: One Dead, Minor Injured After Explosion Collapses Building

A powerful explosion in Punjab’s Ludhiana district led to the collapse of a factory building on Tuesday evening, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to another. The incident has raised concerns over industrial safety and residential arrangements within factory premises.

The blast occurred at a building that housed a matchbox manufacturing unit, where multiple families were reportedly residing at the time.

One Dead, Minor Injured in Incident

Authorities confirmed that one person lost their life due to severe injuries sustained in the explosion. The deceased has been identified as Kaif Shah.

A 16-year-old girl also suffered critical head injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. Officials stated that her condition remains serious, and she is under medical supervision.

Explosion Occurred in Evening Hours

According to initial reports, the explosion took place at approximately 8:20 pm, causing a sudden and severe collapse of the structure. The intensity of the blast led to significant damage, trapping individuals inside the building.

Emergency response teams were quickly deployed to the site to carry out rescue operations and provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.

Families Were Living Inside the Building

Authorities revealed that two to three families were residing within the same building where the factory operated. This has brought attention to the risks associated with mixed-use structures, where industrial activities and residential living coexist.

Such arrangements can increase vulnerability in the event of accidents, particularly in units dealing with flammable materials like matchbox manufacturing.

Rescue Operations and Investigation Underway

Rescue teams worked through the night to clear debris and ensure that no one else remained trapped under the collapsed structure. Officials are currently investigating the exact cause of the explosion.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the blast may have been linked to materials used in the manufacturing process, though a detailed inquiry is ongoing.

Concerns Over Industrial Safety Standards

The incident has once again highlighted the need for strict enforcement of safety regulations in small-scale industrial units. Experts stress the importance of regular inspections, proper storage of hazardous materials, and clear separation between residential and industrial spaces.

Authorities are expected to review compliance measures in similar units to prevent such tragedies in the future.
