Actor KRK Arrested for Firing at Mumbai Residential Building in Andheri

Mumbai Police have arrested actor and controversial film critic Kamaal R Khan, popularly known as KRK, for allegedly firing multiple gunshots at a residential building in the Andheri area of Mumbai. The incident, which took place earlier this month, has raised serious concerns over firearm safety and misuse in densely populated urban areas.

According to police officials, KRK was taken into custody late Friday night from his studio premises and formally arrested after a detailed interrogation. During questioning, he admitted to firing four rounds from his licensed firearm on January 18. The police have since recovered the weapon used in the incident.

The bullets struck a residential building in Oshiwara, where writer-director Neeraj Kumar Mishra resides. Mishra reportedly lives on the second floor of the building, while another resident, model Prateek Baid, occupies the fourth floor. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, though the firing caused panic among residents.

Investigators stated that the motive behind the shooting is still unclear. During interrogation, KRK told police that he had no intention of harming anyone. He claimed that the firearm discharged while he was cleaning it and testing its functionality. According to his statement, he believed he was firing in a safe direction toward a mangrove area located opposite his residence.

KRK allegedly assumed that the bullets would be absorbed by the dense mangrove stretch. However, police said strong winds may have altered the trajectory of at least one round, causing it to travel beyond the intended area and hit the residential building.

Initially, police had no concrete leads regarding the shooter. The case gained traction after forensic analysis and technical investigation linked the gunfire to KRK’s licensed weapon. Following this, a police team traced his movements and questioned him before making the arrest.

Officials emphasised that firing a weapon, even a licensed one, within city limits is a serious offence and poses grave risks to public safety. Authorities are now examining whether there were any violations of firearm licence conditions and whether additional charges will be invoked.

KRK remains in police custody as investigators continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether negligence or intent played a role. Police are also verifying if proper safety protocols were followed and whether the firearm was handled responsibly.

The incident has reignited discussions around gun safety, celebrity accountability, and the dangers of firearm misuse in urban residential areas. Further legal proceedings will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation and forensic reports.
