Army Foils Major Infiltration Bid in Kupwara: 2 Terrorists Killed Near LoC in J&K

The Indian Army successfully foiled a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district’s Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing two terrorists in a swift and coordinated operation on Friday night.

The encounter, part of a military action codenamed “Operation Pimple,” was launched after the Army received specific intelligence inputs about a group of infiltrators attempting to cross into Indian territory from the Pakistan-occupied side.

According to the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, the operation unfolded after alert troops detected suspicious movement near the LoC in the early hours of November 7. The infiltrators were challenged, leading to an intense exchange of fire.

“On 07 Nov 2025, based on specific intelligence input from agencies regarding an infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched in the Keran sector of Kupwara,” the Chinar Corps said in an official statement.

Two terrorists were neutralized in the ensuing gunfight, and a search and combing operation is currently underway to recover arms, ammunition, and other warlike stores from the encounter site. Security officials said that the area has been cordoned off to ensure no other infiltrators are hiding nearby.

Operation Details and Coordination

The counter-infiltration operation was jointly conducted by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and intelligence agencies, reflecting the heightened coordination among security forces operating along the volatile LoC belt.

Officials said that the neutralized militants were heavily armed, and initial assessment suggests that they were part of a Pakistan-based terror outfit attempting to infiltrate before winter snowfall seals mountain passes.

“Regular monitoring and multi-agency coordination helped avert a major infiltration attempt. The prompt action by ground troops has once again demonstrated the Army’s readiness to counter any threat along the LoC,” an official from Northern Command stated.

Increased Cross-Border Activity

The Keran sector has been a hotspot for infiltration attempts over the years due to its rugged terrain and dense forests, providing cover to terrorists trying to sneak into Indian territory.
Officials note that Pakistan-based terror groups have stepped up efforts to push militants across the LoC before the onset of harsh winter, which restricts movement in the region.

Recent weeks have witnessed a series of infiltration bids along the Kupwara, Machil, and Poonch sectors, all of which have been successfully thwarted by Indian security forces.

Heightened Vigil and Security Measures

The Indian Army has intensified surveillance and reconnaissance operations using drones, motion sensors, and night-vision equipment to monitor infiltration routes. The latest operation underscores the constant vigilance maintained along the LoC and the Army’s resolve to prevent any cross-border terror activity.

With Operation Pimple concluding successfully, security agencies remain on high alert, as intelligence reports suggest more infiltration attempts could be made before heavy snow cuts off the mountain routes.

The recovered arms and documents are expected to help investigators trace the terror network’s origin and identify handlers operating from across the border.

The success of this operation reinforces the Indian Army’s proactive approach to national security in Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring peace and stability in the region amid persistent threats from across the LoC.
