Arsenal Lead Premier League as Man City Lose to Newcastle and Liverpool Fall 3–0 to Forest

The Premier League table shifted dramatically on Saturday as Manchester City fell 2–1 to Newcastle United and Liverpool suffered a heavy 3–0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest. The results give Arsenal a clear advantage in the title race ahead of their North London derby clash against Tottenham.

At St James’ Park, Harvey Barnes delivered a stunning brace to secure Newcastle’s comeback victory and halt City’s momentum. The win lifts Newcastle to 14th with 15 points, while City drop further behind Arsenal, remaining fourth and four points off the top.

Both teams struggled to convert early chances in a cagey first half, with Newcastle’s backline restricting City’s creativity and goalkeeper Nick Pope making crucial saves. Erling Haaland, chasing his 100th Premier League goal, was unable to find the breakthrough.

The second half delivered all the drama. Barnes opened the scoring just after the hour mark with a composed low finish. City responded quickly through Ruben Dias, whose deflected strike levelled the game. But Barnes struck again moments later, reacting fastest after Bruno Guimaraes’ header struck the bar. His clinical finish restored Newcastle’s lead and sent St James’ Park into raptures.

The victory dents City’s title push while boosting Newcastle’s confidence after a shaky start to the season.

Liverpool's Struggles Deepen

At Anfield, Nottingham Forest stunned Liverpool 3–0, earning consecutive league wins at the historic ground for the first time in 62 years. Forest capitalised on Liverpool’s defensive errors, taking the lead through Murillo after a corner mix-up.

Seconds into the second half, Nicolo Savona doubled the advantage, finishing from Neco Williams’ cut-back. Morgan Gibbs-White sealed the result late on, scoring from a rebound after Alisson’s save.

Liverpool, now beaten six times in seven league games, drop to 11th place with 18 points, eight behind leaders Arsenal. Their defensive frailties and lack of cohesion have raised major concerns over their season trajectory, while Forest’s composed and clinical display will be remembered as one of their standout Premier League achievements.
