Legendary Brian Lara made a memorable visit to the West Indies dressing room after Day 2 of the second Test against India in Delhi, speaking with captain Roston Chase, coach Darren Sammy, and a few key players. The 56-year-old Lara, visiting alongside fellow cricket great Viv Richards as part of the ‘Mission India’ campaign, is helping raise funds to strengthen the West Indies cricket infrastructure, which is struggling to support long-format cricket.
A source told PTI,
“Brian Lara did visit the West Indies dressing room after the end of the day's play. He didn't make a general address to the players but spoke separately to coach Darren Sammy, captain Roston Chase, and a couple of players. He was around for close to 20 minutes. The discussion was more generic about the health of West Indies cricket and way forward.”
Lara has previously emphasized that financial resources are crucial, but passion and intent remain the true drivers of cricketing success. He addressed the current players, asking:
“Do they really have cricket at heart? Do they want to play for West Indies? That is the most important thing because if you have the intent, you will find a way.”
Reflecting on his own journey, Lara said:
“We did not have better facilities 30–40 years ago. Viv Richards didn't bat on better practice pitches. We had to grind the same way, but the passion to play for West Indies was different. This is a wonderful opportunity for the young players. Every parent would have dreamt of their son playing for West Indies, and that pride must guide them.”
