Christopher Nolan–Led DGA to Meet Netflix Over Warner Bros. Discovery Acquisition Concerns

The Directors Guild of America (DGA), under the leadership of president Christopher Nolan, has announced that it will meet with Netflix to discuss growing concerns over the streaming giant’s potential acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). The move follows reports that Netflix has become the leading bidder and has entered exclusive negotiations to finalise the deal.

The DGA said the development “raises significant concerns” for directors and creative teams across Hollywood.

A spokesperson for the guild told Deadline that a competitive and diverse entertainment ecosystem is essential to protect creative rights, stating:
“A vibrant, competitive industry — one that fosters creativity and encourages genuine competition for talent — is essential. We will meet Netflix to outline our concerns and understand their vision for the future of the company.”

Netflix has reportedly offered around $28 per share, largely in cash, giving it a strong edge in the bidding process. Warner Bros. Discovery began exploring a potential sale in October after receiving multiple offers from Paramount.

The acquisition talks come amid heightened anxiety in Hollywood, where concerns about consolidation and shrinking competition have become widespread. The DGA is the first major union to publicly comment on Netflix’s position, signalling the weight of the discussion for the entire industry.

Other guilds have raised alarms as well. Earlier this year, the Writers Guild of America (East and West) pledged to oppose any merger between WBD and Paramount, warning that further consolidation would be “a disaster for writers, consumers, and competition.”

As Netflix advances negotiations and WBD aims to close a deal by mid-to-late December, unions, creative professionals, and studios alike are closely watching how the acquisition could reshape power dynamics in Hollywood.
